The Geophysics/Oceanography bachelor's degree teaches the scientific basics for researching and describing the solid earth and the oceans using the methods of physics. Both subjects describe physical processes in the Earth system, the exact understanding of which is of great public interest, e.g. for the prediction of earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, for mapping raw material deposits or in relation to the consequences of climate change for sea level as well as for nutrient cycles and ecosystems. The training is closely linked to the current research work of the respective institutes. Students have the opportunity early on to work on projects, to take part in measuring trips at sea or to take part in the evaluation of data and the modeling of physical processes on mainframe computers.
