  • The major in English Literature covers English-language literature from the Middle Ages to the present day, with a focus on modern times since the late 16th century.
  • The American Literary and Cultural Studies major covers all aspects of United States literature and culture from the 17th century to the present. Particular attention is paid to the independent American forms of literature and culture.

Through these three areas of focus, the students acquire not only knowledge of cultural and mental history, but also central literary and linguistic skills, and the ability to relate these to other problem profiles in a later career and to apply them in a scientifically reflective manner. In addition, mastery of the English language is acquired at a level that enables stylistically confident and differentiated communication in oral and written form in all scientific areas.
