Business processes in companies are geared more and more towards globalization and global competition for sales markets, which also leads to a new orientation in classic engineering education. The trend towards thinking in overall technical and economic contexts is also reflected in the two-year, interdisciplinary master's program in industrial engineering. It is carried out jointly by the University of Hamburg, the University of Applied Sciences and the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces and places particular emphasis on the integration of engineering and economics content.

The aim is to train students for fields of work in companies and in research in which complex engineering and business management problems are solved using theoretically sound methods. In both areas, priorities can be set according to one's own preferences - for example on energy technology in the engineering part or on corporate management in the business administration part. The curriculum of the course is rounded off by a broad integrative part in which both perspectives are combined.
