The master's program in "Exercise and Sports Science" conveys the current state of knowledge of the subject and trains the students in scientifically relevant methods. Through project-related work, you will acquire the ability to independently deal with scientific methods, theoretical knowledge and empirical findings and to critically assess and further develop the basics of the subject. You will learn how to work on a variety of problems from a movement science perspective and to take into account both natural science and social and cultural science perspectives and to communicate the research results within and outside of science.

  • "Media and Culture": Focus on current social, media and cultural studies topics, questions and problems of movement and sport.
  • "Performance and Health": Focus on sports medicine, biomechanics, sports motor and training science topics, questions and problems of prevention, rehabilitation and performance development through exercise and sport or directly in the various areas of leisure, health and competitive sports.


The previous master's program "Movement Science - Focus on Health Research" is being phased out and applications for it are no longer possible.

Admission Requirements

  • a first university degree qualifying for a profession in the field of movement or sports science at the University of Hamburg or in a comparable course of study at another university with a minimum number of points in the field of movement or sports science or
  • a successfully completed bachelor's degree in movement or sports science within a teaching degree
