The study of systematic musicology is intended to enable students to work independently, critically, socially responsibly and creatively in the disciplines of the subject. It is based on the physical, psychophysiological and anthropological foundations of music. The students acquire in-depth knowledge of acoustic and psychoacoustic processes and how these are related to the creation and processing of sounds. They also familiarize themselves with the psychological, social and cultural conditions of dealing with music.
Since music is present almost everywhere, students must be familiar with the essential processes involved in the production of music and with the mechanisms of its marketing and reception. The course therefore also teaches the basics of copyright and media law. In addition, the students learn which research methods, experimental techniques and procedures for data acquisition and evaluation exist in musicology for individual hypotheses and theories.
