In addition to the methodologically reflected handling of Chinese sources, the focus is on theoretical approaches from cultural studies and the history of concepts and ideas. As a student, you will acquire the ability to evaluate transdisciplinary theoretical concepts from a sinological perspective and to make them usable for specific research questions. The systematic orientation to questions - not to agreed answers - finally leads to the master's thesis, in which you work on a self-chosen topic scientifically.
Sinology has a long tradition in Hamburg: Hamburg is the cradle of German sinology. Chinese culture has been researched and taught at the Hamburg Institute for almost a century.

- A bachelor's degree in "East Asia/Sinology" from the University of Hamburg or in a comparable sinology degree from a German or recognized foreign university
- Proof of language skills in Chinese
