The international bachelor's degree in History, Languages ​​and Cultures of the Near East imparts basic knowledge of the past and present, cultures, religions and languages ​​of the target region. The main goal of the course is to acquire the ability to analyze complex historical and cultural contexts and thus to reflect on and classify current events. The acquisition of good passive and active language skills in at least one of the main languages ​​of the Middle East (Persian, Arabic or Turkish) and basic knowledge of up to two other languages/language varieties is an integral part of the course.


In the focus on Turkology, knowledge of the history, languages, culture(s) and regional studies of the Turkic-speaking area, especially Turkey, is imparted.


A one-semester stay abroad in the focus region is part of the course.
