As empirical cultural studies, empirical cultural studies is geared towards the analysis of everyday cultural phenomena and practices in their historical and social dimensions. It aims to analyze contemporary societies and directs attention to cultural processes and everyday life models. The Master's degree is a research-oriented degree that familiarizes students with current research fields and discussions of the subject and guides them to do independent scientific work.
Following the principle of research-based learning, the two-semester research seminar on the master’s degree is integrated into the institute’s current research projects and offers the opportunity to gain experience with cooperation partners in Germany and abroad. In addition, students have the opportunity to choose between the two thematic focuses "City and Urbanity" and "Technology and Mediality".
