The sign languages of the deaf are understood as minority languages. From this perspective, sociolinguistic problems arise, such as the consequences of non-recognition of linguistic human rights or the question of the pictorial quality of sign language. The latter contradicts the Western understanding of language and theoretically challenges various disciplines.
