Critically analyzing social processes and structures using sociological terms, theories and methods and deriving concrete conclusions from the findings - that is the goal of the bachelor's degree in sociology. The course teaches students the theoretical and methodological foundations of sociology as well as elementary research results of the subject. The learners should be enabled to apply the acquired knowledge independently and to specialize. In the in-depth phase, the focus is on different areas of application, including “Economy and Business”, “Empirical Social Research”, “Environment and Society” and “International Comparative Research”.

In a further step, the students should learn how to convey the information, ideas and problem solutions they have developed to both experts and laypersons. The bachelor's course also includes a freely selectable minor subject, with which the qualifications from the main course can be meaningfully supplemented.
