The geography master's program "Global Transformations and Environmental Change" is offered at the Institute of Geography and is intended to prepare for scientific activities in a broader sense with a research-oriented approach and an integrative perspective. The main aim is to convey approaches to understanding and dealing with global transformation processes in the economy and society, with global environmental changes and the resulting interactions in specific human-environment relationships. Students can choose between three majors:
  • physical-geographical: Investigation of the dynamics of the earth system triggered by climate change and land use changes as well as other current processes of global environmental change from a landscape-ecological point of view
  • economic and socio-geographical: Analysis of globalization processes in their political-territorial and socio-cultural dimensions
  • integrative: connection of natural and social scientific approaches and findings

In addition, the technical methodological training is of particular importance in the master’s degree. Depending on the focus of their studies, students can either focus on quantitative or qualitative methods or acquire broad skills in various methods such as GIS, remote sensing and modeling by combining different courses.
