The one-year master's degree in Manuscript Cultures aims to convey central topics in the field of general manuscript research combined with subject-specific skills. The course promotes the independent, analytical handling of manuscripts, the cultural-scientific examination of the texts, images, notes and diagrams contained therein, the scientific material analysis of the manuscripts and the development of creative solutions in order to approach complex cultural-scientific and scientific questions. The course covers a broad spectrum of manuscript cultures, particularly in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Admission Requirements

  • A degree in one of the subjects involved in the course (African Studies, Ethiopian Studies, Ancient History, Assyrian Studies, Austronesian Studies, Greek Studies, Historical Musicology, Indology, Islamic Studies, Japanese Studies, Jewish Philosophy and Religion, Art History, Medieval and Modern History, Sinology, Thai Studies, Turkology) or in a related subject
  • Exceptions are possible in the case of equivalent qualifications
