Addictions constitute a problem of local, national, and international scope, with significant effects on health and various aspects of society. Recent statistics point to a sustained increase in addictive behaviors due to the emergence of highly addictive synthetic substances, as well as changes in social dynamics associated with the rise of technologies such as video games. Furthermore, the increase in addictions translates into damage to mental, cognitive, and psychosocial health, loss of productive years of life, and an overload of health services with the high economic and social costs this entails. In our country, despite the magnitude of the addiction phenomenon, gaps persist in specialized professional training and in its updating on evidence-based intervention protocols. In this context, it is essential to train professionals capable of addressing addictions with a scientific foundation; that is, to understand the alterations of the nervous system associated with them, with a comprehensive view of this disease, and with knowledge of care practices supported by scientific evidence.
The Master's Program in Neuroscience of Addiction (MNA) represents an unprecedented and innovative proposal that responds to the growing severity and complexity of addiction. It is based on local and national needs for professional development, scientific advancement, and training in the field of addictive disorders. The program addresses the urgent need to train highly specialized professionals with a solid academic and scientific foundation. It places special emphasis on the theoretical and methodological foundations of neuroscience, psychology, and social sciences, with the aim of approaching the phenomenon of addiction from a current, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary perspective.
The MNA seeks to train experts with a comprehensive vision of the complexity of addiction and with a neuroscientific approach, capable of promoting and developing professional training actions, prevention and designs of care treatment based on evidence, multidisciplinary, that identify the different levels of care required, with a gender perspective, under the ethical and professional codes of the field of health sciences and the management of addictions.
As this is a newly established program, we have already issued a call for applications for the first cohort. We have also received validation from the National System of Postgraduate Studies (SNP) through the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti), and we are committed to improving the program to meet national quality standards. Admission Requirements
- Having completed the corresponding Master's program;
- Cover all the credits in the curriculum;
- To present, defend and pass the final degree project in any of the approved modalities;
- Having participated as a teaching assistant in at least one postgraduate course, under the supervision and approval of the tutor;
- Having presented at least one paper as a speaker at a Congress of recognized scientific prestige;
- Having passed the program evaluations as determined by the Academic Board;
- Present proof of no outstanding debt issued by the School Control Coordination of the University Center for Health Sciences, and
- Cover applicable fees.
