The Master's Degree in Bioethics is a postgraduate program offered by the University of Guadalajara, through the Department of Philosophy of the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the University Center for Health Sciences, the University Center for Biological and Agricultural Sciences, the University Center of Tonalá and the University Center of Los Altos.

The postgraduate program is in-person and professionally oriented. It is integrated with three lines of Application and Generation of Knowledge (LAGC): Bioethics and Health, Bioethics in Technological Development and Ecosystemic Services, and Bioethics in the Social and Regulatory Sphere.

The proposal to create the Master's Degree in Bioethics is based on the growing social need to address the uncertainties generated by scientific and technological development and innovation, whose actions or implementation have effects on the biosphere and health, generating moral uncertainties, which can find an alternative solution through the training of specialists in bioethics.

In Jalisco and Western Mexico, the Master's Degree in Bioethics is the only alternative for professional training in bioethics, taking into account the characteristics that distinguish public education, that is, with an eminently secular profile and which has as its central focus the resolution of the problems that afflict society.

In this same vein, the Master's program is positioned as a cutting-edge postgraduate program that seeks to address the bioethical problems facing society, considering the challenges posed by cutting-edge science with an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approach. To achieve its objectives, the program establishes collaborative agreements with academic institutions and civil society organizations. Furthermore, the Master's in Bioethics aligns with the National Strategic Programs of CONACYT (the Mexican National Council of Science and Technology) by aiming to contribute to the reduction of structural violence and inequalities, as well as to promote socio-ecological systems and sustainability.

The specific profile of bioethics, according to the international documents that define it, should be conceived as a pluralistic and multidisciplinary field. This is particularly relevant in the national context, given that a bioethical problem involves humanistic, social, scientific, technological, and administrative aspects. Furthermore, our country's diverse cultural landscape, along with significant inequalities in opportunity, places us in a situation that necessitates the application of bioethical principles.
