The Master's Program in Global Politics and Trans-Pacific Studies (GP&TPS) is a graduate program offered in Mexico by the University of Guadalajara with a global perspective focused on trans-Pacific studies. The program offers three Lines of Knowledge Generation and/or Application (LGAC), or specializations, centered on the most relevant actors in the Asia-Pacific region: China, Japan, and North America. Its main objective is to train global human resources with the skills to interact and communicate in multicultural societies and to contribute to understanding the complex political, social, and economic relationships of the global environment, as well as to solving local problems from a global perspective.
International economic and political uncertainty from the 2008 global financial crisis to the 2020 pandemic has left Mexico, like many other nations, exposed to complex economic challenges. Greater economic and diplomatic diversification, aimed at improving relations beyond Mexico's traditional focus on its ties with the United States, could help strengthen the country's economy and increase its international influence, particularly in the face of the current wave of protectionism emerging in the United States.
In this sense, global politics and its formal and informal institutions, such as the United Nations and the G20, constitute a broader multilateral context for enhancing Mexico's influence in international diplomacy and economic governance. The global and trans-Pacific contexts involve many of the same international actors and processes in areas such as foreign direct investment, foreign exchange markets, and trade. The economic and political context of 21st-century international relations has been characterized by the growing influence of Asia-Pacific nations. This has been driven primarily by the growth of the region's economic, political, social, cultural, and migratory capacities, especially in China and South Korea in East Asia, as well as in the countries that make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN); states that followed Japan's rise on the world stage in the late 20th century.
The creation of new trans-Pacific regional forums in recent decades, especially the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) group, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and the Regional Cooperation in Economic Partnership (RCEP), has developed as a consequence of the growing awareness of the benefits of multilateral economic cooperation focused on the Pacific.
In the Asia-Pacific region, regional economic relations have grown substantially, leading Mexico to strengthen its economic ties with the region's economies. Consequently, private and public institutions in Mexico, from small, medium, and large enterprises to national, regional, and municipal governments, now have a growing need for global human resources with the relevant education, training, and specialized knowledge to bolster their relationships across the Pacific "mega-region." This is especially true for Guadalajara and Jalisco, given their status as key economic and educational centers on Mexico's Pacific coast.
Therefore, the need arises to create a postgraduate program in English with a global perspective, focused on transpacific studies and with specializations in North America, China, and Japan: the Master's in Global Politics and Transpacific Studies (GP&TPS). The master's program will allow students to deepen their understanding of the relevance of current trends involving new actors and new governance processes in international relations. This also fulfills the University of Guadalajara's objectives of expanding and diversifying its postgraduate offerings with high standards of quality and national and international relevance, for which essential strategies include increasing and diversifying enrollment in quality postgraduate programs.

Admission Requirements
In addition to those stipulated by current university regulations, the following are required:
- Bachelor's degree or graduation certificate, preferably in the areas of Social Sciences and/or Economic and Administrative Sciences.
- Demonstrate a minimum average of eighty, with an original certificate or equivalent document, from previous studies.
- Present proof of TOEFL iBT® exam (Minimum of 100 points) or ITP® (level B2 or a minimum of 543 points).
- Statement of purpose in English (600 words) for pursuing the program:
- Personal
- Academics
- Professionals.
- Attach Curriculum Vitae (No longer than two pages) with supporting documents.
- 2 academic and/or professional letters of recommendation.
- Certificate of good health.
- Pass the Ceneval EXANI III ® Exam, with the score determined by the Academic Board.
- Interview in English with two members of the Academic Board.
- Curriculum evaluation.
- Research project.
- The additional requirements that are established in the calls for applications.
