The proposal to create the Master's Degree in History of Mexico was presented in 1997, as a result of the collective work of professors assigned to the Department of History of the Division of Historical and Human Studies, of the University Center of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Guadalajara.. The following year, on August 3, the Program was approved by the General University Council of the University of Guadalajara. Subsequently, the first Call for Generation 1999-2001 was published and the selection process began. Since 2002, scholarships have been awarded with the support of CONACYT, an element that has contributed to the terminal efficiency in the master's degree. At the moment, 11 generations have graduated and the twelfth is in the process of training.
The Master's Degree in Mexican History is a postgraduate degree that aims to solidly train the student in the field of disciplinary knowledge and historical research in a critical, original and creative way. So students are guided in historiographies, theories, methodologies and empirical analyzes necessary to meet the research demands in the field of the country's history. Their training makes them capable of working in various fields specialized in History. Likewise, they develop their skills in the dissemination, dissemination, transmission and communication of disciplinary knowledge, the historical knowledge about Mexico in general and the knowledge they produce specifically for their theses. Without ignoring the fact that they are competent in specialized documentary research in archives and libraries.  They are capable of producing knowledge about the past in everyday, local, regional, national and in connection with international processes.

Admission Requirements

  • Have a bachelor's degree in History or a related field.
  • Accredit a minimum average of 80 (eighty).
  • Copy of their publications and, if applicable, a copy of the bachelor's thesis.
  • Commitment letter of exclusive dedication to the program.
  • Submit and pass a written examination of analysis of a historical text.
  • Submit a preliminary research project for the preparation of the master's thesis.
  • Appear for an interview with two members of the Academic Board.
  • Submit and pass an English or French language reading-comprehension test.
  • Take and pass the propaedeutic, in the face-to-face course modality for applicants residing in the city of Guadalajara, or in the online course modality for applicants residing in other cities of the country or abroad.
