The Master's Program in Inter-American Literatures offers its students the option of obtaining a dual degree thanks to its partnership with the Master's Program in Inter-American Studies at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. Both programs share the primary objective of studying the literatures and cultures of the various regions of the Americas—North, Central, and South—and specifically investigating the interrelations and interactions among them. This has been the focus of the collaboration between the Department of Literary Studies at the University of Guadalajara (DEL) and the Center for Inter-American Studies at the University of Bielefeld (CIAS).
The Master's in Inter-American Studies addresses these topics from an interdisciplinary perspective (Literary Studies, Linguistics, Cultural and Media Studies, Latin American Studies, North American Studies, Historiography, Social Sciences), while the Master's in Inter-American Literatures focuses on the study of literature and culture within the inter-American context. In short, both programs share the same goals and address the same topics through an interdisciplinary approach. At the same time, the two programs are complementary in that one offers specialization in literary studies and the other in cultural studies of the Americas.
Joint research projects developed in both the Department of Literary Studies and the Center for Inter-American Studies form the basis for integrating the curricula of the two Master's programs, thus enabling the option of a dual degree. A long history of academic relations exists between these two university departments, the Department of Literary Studies and the Center for Inter-American Studies, dating back to 2004. This collaboration encompasses student and faculty exchanges, academic residencies, the organization of seminars, colloquia and workshops, thesis supervision, joint research projects, and publications.
It is expected that the academic activities carried out in other university instances such as the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS), the Julio Cortázar Latin American Chair and the Carmen Balcells Documentation Center, for example, will be linked to the curricula of this binational program as support and strengthening of the academic development of students and professors at the level of teaching, research and dissemination of the literature and cultures of the Americas.

Admission Requirements
In accordance with the criteria established for student selection in the General Postgraduate Regulations, the Master's Program in Inter-American Literatures considers the following:
1. Hold a Bachelor's degree in Literature, or in related humanities fields that, in the opinion of the Academic Board, provides the applicant with an adequate foundation to pursue the Master's Degree in Inter-American Literatures.
2. Have a minimum average of 80, or its equivalent, in undergraduate studies.
3. Submit your curriculum vitae with supporting documents.
4. Submit a preliminary research project, to be carried out during the Master's program, that is aligned with the guiding principle of the postgraduate program (inter-American literature) in its historical and cultural context and whose development the Academic Board determines as viable.
5. Understand, in addition to Spanish, one of the Inter-American languages required for the full development of the respective research projects throughout the program. Verification of this requirement may be through official certificates issued by recognized institutions. In the case of the dual degree option, a B2 level of English is required, meaning the ability to speak and read English.
6. Of the applicants opting for the dual degree, 3 will be selected to complete their first year at the University of Bielefeld and subsequently finish their second year at the University of Guadalajara. The other applicants will complete all semesters of the Master's Program in Inter-American Literatures at the University of Guadalajara.
7. In the event that the Academic Board decides to implement a preparatory course, applicants must complete and pass it.
8. Take and pass the entrance exam.
9. To be admitted and judged by the Academic Board of the Master's Program.
10. Cover the amount of the fees set by the Finance Department of the University of Guadalajara.
11. Comply with the other requirements established by the University Center for Social Sciences and Humanities, through the School Control Directorate of the University of Guadalajara, in accordance with current regulations.
