The Master of Science in Ecology and Management of Coastal and Marine Resources (ECoMaR) is a research-oriented program with a school-based modality. The program seeks to promote and strengthen the training of human resources in the field of ecology and management of coastal and marine resources, within the framework of integrated coastal zone management. In this sense, both the conceptual approach and the study plans and lines of research are consistent with the guidelines and principles supported and accepted by national institutions and international organizations that have the guidelines on this topic.
Due to its quality, in August 2019 ECoMaR was recognized and included in the National Register of Quality Postgraduate Studies of CONACYT (PNPC). This implies that students who enter the Program can opt and compete for a CONACYT scholarship for their exclusive dedication to obtaining the degree of Master of Science.
The master's degree is offered by the  Department of Studies for the Sustainable Development of the Coastal Zone  (DEDSZC) of the  University of Guadalajara  at its headquarters in San Patricio-Melaque, Jalisco, Mexico. The Department has infrastructure of classrooms and laboratories, specialized equipment for research in biology and oceanography, land transportation and several small vessels for research, as well as the recently acquired Oceanographic and Fisheries Research Ship “Sea Lion”, equipped for multidisciplinary research in ecosystems. marine and that will serve as a school ship for the University of Guadalajara.
The duration of this academic program is four semesters (two years). The courses are offered in a modular way and in the morning hours from Monday to Friday. The modality for obtaining the master's degree is the presentation and defense of a thesis resulting from an original research work.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or degree certificate.
  • Certificate of undergraduate studies certifying a minimum general average of 80.
  • Proof of basic command (reading-comprehension) of the English language, issued by an institution with official recognition.
  • Submit results of the EXANI III Research postgraduate entrance exam of CENEVAL, with a score greater than 900 points.
  • Curriculum vitae with copies of your supporting documents.
  • Statement of reasons letter.
  • Protocol of the research project, endorsed by an academic holder of the master's degree.
  • Confidential letter of recommendation from a recognized professor and/or researcher.
  • Interview with the Academic Board, and
  • The other requirements published in the respective call, defined by the Academic Board.
