The Doctoral Program in Mathematics at the University Center for Exact Sciences and Engineering of the University of Guadalajara is a full-time, on-campus, research-oriented program encompassing the following areas of study: Basic Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The program lasts four years, during which students will take twelve courses: one elective core course, four open electives, and eight dissertation seminars. Finally, students will present and defend a dissertation to obtain their doctorate. The program is currently registered with the National System of Graduate Studies (SNP) and holds Category One status, making our students eligible for SECIHTI scholarships.

Admission Requirements

  •  In addition to those stipulated by current university regulations, the following are required: 
    • Present the master's degree or master's degree examination certificate in Mathematics, Physics or areas related to the program, the latter at the discretion of the Postgraduate Academic Board.
    • To have accredited, with a minimum average of eighty, with an original certificate or equivalent document, the preceding studies, as the case may be.
    • Verify knowledge of the English language, with level B1 of the Common European Framework, or its equivalent.
    • Submit a resume with relevant supporting documents.
    • Letter of intent explaining the reasons for taking the program.
    • Submit a written research project proposal, endorsed by a professor from the Academic Core of the Program, who accepts the possibility of being your thesis director.
    • Make a technical and motivational presentation to the Admissions Committee made up of professors from the program, appointed by the Academic Board, so that it can assess the applicant's profile for the Postgraduate program; this Committee will establish the characteristics and format of the technical presentation.
    • The applicant must take and pass a knowledge exam in the chosen area; the content and format of the exam will be prepared by a committee appointed by the Academic Board.
    • Those additional ones established by the Call for Proposals.
