Due to its quality, in August 2019 ECoMaR was recognized and included in the National Registry of Quality Graduate Programs of CONACYT (PNPC). Currently, within the National Graduate Studies System, the Master's program is classified in Category 1 of the SNP, Public Research Graduate Programs, which includes research-oriented graduate programs from public institutions that comply with CONAHCYT guidelines (July 26, 2023, updated February 15, 2024). This means that students admitted to the program are eligible to apply for a CONAHCYT scholarship to dedicate themselves exclusively to obtaining their Master of Science degree.
The master's program is offered by the Department of Studies for Sustainable Coastal Development (DEDSZC) at the University of Guadalajara, located in San Patricio-Melaque, Jalisco, Mexico. The department has classroom and laboratory facilities, specialized equipment for research in biology and oceanography, land transportation, and several small research vessels, as well as the recently acquired Oceanographic and Fisheries Research Vessel “León Marino,” equipped for multidisciplinary research in marine ecosystems and which will serve as a training vessel for the University of Guadalajara.
This academic program lasts four semesters (two years). Courses are offered in a modular format and are held in the mornings, Monday through Friday. The master's degree is awarded upon presentation and defense of a thesis based on original research.
