Computational Intelligence (CI) is the branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research that focuses on various paradigms and mechanisms of learning, adaptation, and evolution, as well as their implementation in complex and changing computer systems. The goal is to equip these systems with the ability to exhibit "intelligent" behavior. Unlike classical AI, which typically focuses on methodologies based on the formal and statistical analysis of human behavior, CI also includes methodologies where the learning process is based on the manipulation of empirical data (such as fuzzy logic, expert systems, genetic algorithms, artificial neural networks, etc.). The Doctorate in Computational Intelligence Sciences (DCIC) is a program aimed at generating human capital with a research profile, trained to face the needs and challenges imposed by the modern world, specifically in what concerns the development and application of CI tools aimed at solving various everyday problems, such as data analysis oriented to the areas of business and health, optimization of routes for land vehicles, image analysis in industrial processes, surveillance, medical applications, among others.

Admission Requirements

In addition to those stipulated by university regulations, the following are required:
  • Hold a Master's degree or diploma in Electronics, Computing, Informatics, Mechatronics, Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or areas related to the Program, the latter at the discretion of the Postgraduate Academic Board. 
  • To satisfactorily comply with the selection methods designated by the Academic Board in accordance with articles 50 to 52 of the General Postgraduate Regulations, and which will be published in the respective call for applications. 
  • Demonstrate the applicant's knowledge of the English language through an official document, accrediting at least level B1 of the common European framework of reference for languages ​​or its equivalent.
