Engineering sciences are fundamental to the development of any society, as they comprise the body of structured knowledge and research that fosters innovation, creation, development, and improvement of techniques and tools to address diverse problems, transforming knowledge and research into something practical and useful.

In this regard, the Doctoral Program in Engineering Sciences aims to train human resources capable of formulating high-quality research projects in areas such as: (i) automation and control; (ii) applied physics; (iii) industrial engineering; (iv) computer science; (v) chemical sciences; and (vi) environmental sciences. This is intended to generate an impact on social, economic, and sustainable development at the regional, national, and international levels.

Therefore, the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences focuses on generating social awareness among students in their environment, as well as advances at the frontier of knowledge and the development of theoretical-methodological approaches and perspectives that generate innovation that positively impacts their field of action.

The Doctorate in Engineering Sciences is a research-based, full-time, on-campus program.

The program lasts eight academic semesters. The maximum time allowed for graduation will be determined by the General Postgraduate Regulations of the University of Guadalajara, upon completion of the program.

The Postgraduate Program of the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences offers two Lines of Generation and Application of Knowledge (LGAC):
  • Advanced materials and environmental technologies.
  • Applied technology.

Admission Requirements

In addition to those stipulated by university regulations, the following will apply: 
  • Having a master's degree or graduation certificate in a discipline related to the program; the relatedness will be evaluated by the Academic Board of the program.
  • Minimum average of 80 (or its equivalent) endorsed with the Master's certificate.
  • Demonstrate a minimum level of B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR) in English, or equivalent.
  • Submit the exam(s) that prove your aptitude and knowledge to be able to pursue postgraduate studies in accordance with the current call for applications.
  • Hold an interview with the Academic Board of the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences to explain the reasons for admission to the program.
  • Present a research project in accordance with the Lines of Generation and Application of Knowledge of the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences.
  • Submit a letter of intent addressed to the Academic Board to pursue the program.
  • Foreign applicants whose native language is not Spanish must demonstrate adequate command of it, at the discretion of the Academic Board of the PhD in Engineering Sciences.
  • Approve the other requirements published in the respective call for applications.
