Analyzing large amounts of data requires a broad and diverse range of knowledge, and it is the correct application of mathematical techniques and models that gives meaning to the numbers. The Master's Program in Data Science is a recently created program at CUCEA, approved in December 2018, and its first cohort of students began in August 2019.

The master's degree aims to train experts in solving economic, financial, business, marketing and public policy problems, with the support of processing large amounts of data and applying techniques for data analysis, modeling and simulation through supercomputing.

Data Science is closely related to the term Big Data, which in recent years has become an indispensable field for diagnosing and proposing solutions to problems of various kinds. The importance of Data Science lies precisely in its flexibility to make sense of the needs of each problem related to data management.

This postgraduate program stems from the need to give meaning to information generated across diverse contexts. It provides a multidisciplinary approach, enabling students to apply their acquired knowledge in any field requiring information processing, such as social, educational, or business settings. Its objective is to train professionals in economic and administrative areas with a solid foundation in the extraction, management, and analysis of large volumes of data.

The Master's program in Data Science opens applications annually and lasts two years. Currently, efforts are underway to be included in the National Quality Graduate Programs (PNPC) of CONACYT.

Furthermore, the master's program is fostering connections with national and international companies and universities, so that students will have the opportunity to undertake academic stays where they will apply the knowledge and skills acquired in relation to Data Science.
