The Interinstitutional Doctoral Program in Art and Culture aims to train researchers properly equipped to analyze, research, and disseminate art and culture from local, regional, and national perspectives in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean, fostering a necessary and appropriate reflection on these issues within a global dimension. While the program focuses primarily on the art and culture of the aforementioned regions, it does not exclude the connections these geographical areas have with other cultural systems.

Regarding art (and its specific disciplines, from performing arts such as dance, music, theater and film; from oral traditions and literature to avant-garde art, visual arts, virtuality, technology and digital design) and culture (in its broadest and most comprehensive sense, that is, as the actions of human beings in society) systematic research is more necessary than ever in order to shape more critical, more reflective societies, in the understanding that artistic and cultural phenomena, in their different manifestations, are a relevant and multi-significant object that must be studied from different theoretical perspectives in the universities of Mexico.
