In recent years, it has been recognized that accelerated global action is needed to address the serious and devastating problem of the double burden of malnutrition. In various parts of the world, including Mexico, the rate of overweight or obese children under five continues to rise, and unfortunately, less than 40% of infants worldwide are exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life. Mexico also faces complex overlapping burdens of malnutrition that require focused action at the policy, health system, and community levels.
Given this social landscape in which addressing the health and nutritional needs of the mother-child dyad from different perspectives is essential for improving the living conditions and health of our population, the Doctorate in Maternal and Child Nutrition was proposed with the mission of training highly qualified human resources capable of identifying these problems and offering solutions to improve the quality of life of human beings, and particularly of Mexicans.
The doctoral program in Maternal and Child Nutrition offers a wide range of research areas in maternal and child nutrition, encompassing diverse approaches across basic, clinical, and public health disciplines. Furthermore, graduates will find employment opportunities both within their core disciplines and in maternal and child nutrition research, primarily in universities and public or private institutions focused on the care and well-being of mothers and their children.

Admission Requirements
These are those established in the current university regulations applicable to postgraduate studies, as well as the following:
Applicants who are graduates and/or have received a degree from the University of Guadalajara are exempt from submitting a simple copy or original of the requirements established in sections a) and b) of this resolution, since the school archive already contains the electronic information of the same.
In the case of students who did not prove Level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, preferably in English, a maximum period of 12 months will be granted for delivery.
For students with previous studies completed abroad, in addition to the above, the following is required:
The degree, certificates and birth certificate must be apostilled or the applicable procedure for countries not members of the Hague Convention and if they are in a language other than Spanish, accompany a translation by an accredited expert.
- A simple copy of the degree or master's degree examination record, establishing a maximum period of 12 months for the delivery of the master's degree, related to the areas of food and nutrition, molecular biology, biology, nursing, epidemiology, physiology, pharmacology, immunology, microbiology, nutrition, psychology, pharmaceutical chemist, public health, at the discretion of the Academic Board.
- Master's degree certificate with an average grade equal to or greater than 80 (eighty) or its equivalent.
- Have a Unique Population Registry Code (CURP). In the case of foreigners, it must be valid.
- Curriculum vitae that demonstrates your academic and research experience.
- Letter of intent explaining the reasons for taking the program.
- Demonstrate a minimum level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), preferably in English or its equivalent.
- Pass the basic knowledge exam in research methodology and basic statistics accepted by the Academic Board.
- Conduct an interview with a Selection Committee made up of professors from the program.
- Submit a preliminary research project related to the program's lines of innovation and knowledge generation.
- Letter of commitment to full-time dedication to the Program.
