The countries considered world powers are those that have based their economies on the development of their own resources, not on those bestowed upon them by nature. These resources, created by themselves, are the product of a model based on science or scientific development. This framework allows them to identify and characterize problems and, consequently, create the technology to solve inherent problems of their society and time without dependence on others. However, the main advantage of working within this scientific framework is that it allows them to envision, choose, and plan their future.
This context must be planned and supported by governments, the private sector, and universities in order to obtain the necessary human and economic resources. For a country to achieve this development, multidisciplinary work is required across all sectors, as current problems demand rapid, low-cost, and long-term sustainable solutions.
This collaborative work (multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary) allows for the integration of knowledge from various disciplines with the goal of solving increasingly complex problems. This convergence of different areas has enabled unimaginable growth in scientific output, from publications to patents, but its greatest achievement has been its impact on society.
Currently, scientific and technological output in Mexico remains low in both public and private institutions. The main factor behind this lag is the limited collaboration among working groups for the creation of knowledge and technology.
