The term Podiatry is defined as the "branch of medical activity, whose purpose is the treatment of conditions and deformities of the feet, limiting its therapeutic action to manipulations that belong to Minor Surgery". Podiatry is a health profession that is responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of foot pathologies. The Podiatrist is the "specialist in podiatry". Possession of the Degree in Podiatry will empower its holders to, with full autonomy, receive patients directly. Currently, it is a discipline that has great legislative support to regulate all its professional skills and that gives it an independent character from other health degrees. The creation of the degree, responds in the first place, to the need and social demand for podiatric care, as a consequence of the lack of professionals trained to provide specialized care in foot health, followed by the great theoretical development and advances experienced by the profession. The Degree in Podiatry will allow the new podiatrist professional to adapt to the demands of health and quality of life of our population, and in parallel growth to the improvement of the general health care of our society.
