The Doctoral Program in Mathematical Engineering, Statistics and Operations Research is an interuniversity program of the Complutense University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The program brings together a group of researchers from different faculties, schools, departments and research groups of the Complutense and Polytechnic Universities of Madrid and the Higher Council for Scientific Research. Its activity covers many areas within the field of applied mathematics, statistics and operational research, in a very broad sense, areas that range from the necessary fundamentals to direct application to real cases. What unites the group of professors of the program is the development of results, techniques or methods oriented to the use of mathematics in the description of phenomena, process improvement or problem solving. This program is, therefore, a meeting place for a broad group of researchers with common interests in the lines developed by the doctoral program and who have great training and research potential. This can be a strong attraction for the best students at a national and international level: the program was born with the aspiration of becoming a benchmark in this field.

Admission Requirements

If you are from an EU country, you will have access if you hold a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from a Spanish university or from a university in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and a university Masters degree. You may also apply if you have a minimum number of 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 (one academic year) must be at Masters level. ECTS are credits recognised in the European Higher Education Area and are equivalent to 25-30 hours of work.

If you are a graduate from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) you can access the university without the need to certify your degrees, once the UCM verified that the level of studies is equivalent to a Masters degree at a university in Spain. Access via this route does not in any case imply the official certification of your degree prior to starting your Masters course.

To complete your doctoral studies you will need to present a doctoral thesis consisting of an original work of research by the student in any field of knowledge.
