The UCM Doctoral Program in Journalism covers the research period of the postgraduate training that prepares for obtaining the title of Doctor in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid. It corresponds, therefore, to the higher level of academic training and requires the doctoral student to prepare and defend an original and quality research work, the doctoral thesis. The program is part of the area of Social Sciences and contemplates the activity and sociopolitical, economic and cultural repercussions of journalism as its object of research and production of knowledge. There is a large number of scientific research objects specific to this program, whether they refer to written press, radio, television or cybermedia journalism, as well as the wide spectrum of social, cultural, political and economic repercussions that its activity behaves in contemporary societies.

ECTS are credits recognised in the European Higher Education Area and are equivalent to 25-30 hours of work.
If you are a graduate from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) you can access the university without the need to certify your degrees, once the UCM verified that the level of studies is equivalent to a Masters degree at a university in Spain. Access via this route does not in any case imply the official certification of your degree prior to starting your Masters course.
To complete your doctoral studies you will need to present a doctoral thesis consisting of an original work of research by the student in any field of knowledge.
