The consideration of the Degree in Art History  as a humanistic discipline treated with a scientific character was conceived during the 18th century. In our country, the teaching of Art History as an academic discipline began with the Moyano Law of Public Instruction (1857). From 1993 the History of Art reaches the category of differentiated degree. The richness of the Community of Madrid in relation to historical-artistic heritage, both in monumental complexes and in museums of world relevance, as well as the importance that the art market reaches here, requires the consolidation of studies of the Degree in History of Art of the highest level in public universities. The trajectory of excellence that the UCM offers in this field has made it a reference center on the national and international scene. The facilities of the Faculty of Geography and History, located on the Moncloa campus, provide the necessary means to ensure the teaching of Art studies with quality guarantees: library, amphitheater classrooms, classrooms with mobile and fixed seats prepared for teaching with up-to-date technologies, auditorium, graduation hall, laboratories, workshops, Wi-Fi connection, dining cafeteria, etc. In addition, the facilities are adapted for use by disabled people.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to this degree, you must meet the requirements for access to the University contemplated by current regulations: selectivity, International Baccalaureates, Validation agreements, access for people over 25 years of age, over 40 years of age, etc. You have all the details on the University Admissions page: ucm.es

In the case of non-native Spanish speakers, according to the Agreement of the Governing Council of January 29, 2019 (BOUC of February 7, 2019), which approves the Spanish language requirements for admission to Degree and Master's degree and linguistic/language skills, all students from non-Spanish-speaking countries or educational systems must prove a knowledge of Spanish according to the CEFR level B2, at the time of submitting the application for admission to the Degree.
