The Doctoral Program in Ancient World Studies fundamental objective is the continuity in the training of the doctoral student in research tasks aimed at the preparation and presentation of a doctoral thesis, consisting of an original research work in accordance with the provisions of Postgraduate RD 56/2006 and 1393/2007 and in the RD of Doctorate 99/2011. The doctoral thesis project must be framed within one of the following lines of research included in the program:

  • Ancient history
  • Archeology and Heritage
  • Greek Philology and Indo-European Studies
  • Latin Philology
  • Survival and Classic Tradition

It is intended mainly (although not exclusively) for graduates of the interuniversity master's degrees in History and Sciences of Antiquity and in Classical Philology. The student who wishes to carry out the doctoral thesis within the framework of this program must register it in either of the two organizing universities and provide the Coordinating Commission with the accreditation of having completed a master's degree that gives access to the doctorate. In addition to the aforementioned History and Sciences of Antiquity and Classical Philology, applications from graduates of other official master's degrees (60 ECTS credits) or doctoral students who have completed the first phase (doctoral courses and TEA) of former doctorate Programs, one and all related in some way to Antiquity.
