The profession of speech therapist has evolved increasingly in recent years, until it is recognized as a health profession. This recognition has allowed the development of Degree in Speech Therapy, a new study plan adapted to the guidelines that must be met by the Bachelor's Degrees that qualify for the exercise of the profession of speech therapist. Human communication integrates all higher brain functions associated with the understanding and expression of oral and written language, as well as all forms of non-verbal communication. Language and speech involve auditory, visual, cognitive, orofacial, respiratory, swallowing, vocal, and tubal functions. The alterations of these functions in some people cause different disorders that hinder, if not prevent, their communication and therefore their social reintegration. Others affect the normal course of children's development and thus their school and social success. Speech therapy is interested in language and communication with its own approach, based on biological, psychological, linguistic, educational, and methodological knowledge, with the ultimate goal of intervention in disorders. The Faculty of Psychology, located on the Somosaguas campus, has all the necessary infrastructure and services for teaching the Degree in Speech Therapy: library, seminars, laboratories, computer rooms, Clinical Speech Therapy Unit, etc.
