The research activity carried out in the field of Veterinary Medicine has great specific weight. In addition to the clinical area and basic sciences, research in Veterinary Sciences covers other fields of great socioeconomic relevance, such as animal production and welfare, the environment, and food technology, hygiene and safety. The Doctoral Program in Veterinary Medicine aims to provide its students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and develop research work in the various fields that make up basic and applied Veterinary Sciences, through multidisciplinary training integrated in teaching and research of quality. More than 30 own research groups participate in the program, whose members also collaborate with researchers from numerous universities and national and international research centers in carrying out projects, student stays, evaluation and direction of doctoral theses and publication of scientific papers. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UCM is characterized by a high scientific production, which places it each year in outstanding positions in national and international rankings.

Admission Requirements
If you are from an EU country, you will have access if you hold a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from a Spanish university or from a university in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and a university Masters degree. You may also apply if you have a minimum number of 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 (one academic year) must be at Masters level. ECTS are credits recognised in the European Higher Education Area and are equivalent to 25-30 hours of work.
If you are a graduate from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) you can access the university without the need to certify your degrees, once the UCM verified that the level of studies is equivalent to a Masters degree at a university in Spain. Access via this route does not in any case imply the official certification of your degree prior to starting your Masters course.
To complete your doctoral studies you will need to present a doctoral thesis consisting of an original work of research by the student in any field of knowledge.
