The Master's Degree in Photographic Documentation: Recovery, Treatment and Diffusion is a new creation and its subject makes it novel on the Spanish scene. The National Plan for the Conservation of Photographic Heritage of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports indicates that the teaching of photography at the university level must evolve towards a more extensive training that contemplates the different agents involved in the creation, acquisition, conservation, description, use and dissemination of photographic collections, including intellectual property issues and analysis of tools for managing digital collections. The training offer that is presented participates in this approach and arises as a response to the growing interest in photographic documentation and the absence of a public offer in Spanish universities that seeks specialized training on the subject such as the one proposed in this master. We want to underline that the approach of the master in Photographic Documentation is in perfect harmony with the needs of the institutions and those responsible for this documentation. The training proposal is not exhausted in the traditional field of conservation (which undoubtedly has a singular importance) but attends with equal dedication to training in photographic documentation management in the broadest sense: cataloging, conservation and location of the information corresponding to photographic backgrounds; attention to the legal aspects related to reproduction rights and intellectual property; to its discovery, location, recovery of supports and maintenance of the "historical" technologies suitable for reproduction and copying on supports suitable for consultation and, as a basic context, the historical and aesthetic formation that allows us to approach these materials as what they are: a fundamental part of the cultural heritage of key importance in shaping the historical and visual memory of our recent past.

Admission Requirements

If you come from an EU country you must have a bachelor's degree from a Spanish university, or from a university in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

If you are a graduate from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) you can access the university without the need to officially certify your degree, once the UCM has verified that your level of studies is equivalent to a bachelor's degree at a university in Spain. Access via this route does not in any case imply the official certification of your degree prior to starting your Masters course.
