The UCM's Doctoral Program in Mathematical Research has as its general objective the training of researchers in Mathematics by training Doctors in Mathematics with a high level of training, both in the national and international context. It is structured around four main lines of research: Algebra, Geometry and Topology, Mathematical Analysis and Applied Mathematics. The Doctorate Program in Mathematical Research at the UCM brings together some fifty researchers, who carry out their professional activity mainly at the UCM Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, and also at the ICMAT Institute of Mathematical Sciences (CSIC-UAM-UC3M-UCM), Center of Excellence accredited by the Severo Ochoa Program. In addition to professors from the UCM, researchers from the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and other national or foreign organizations participate in the program. The development areas of the program are framed mainly in the development of non-oriented basic research, and are included in the R&D&I strategies at regional, national and European level. The researchers of the program participate in more than twenty Research Projects financed by the University, the Community of Madrid, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the European Union.

Admission Requirements

If you are from an EU country, you will have access if you hold a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from a Spanish university or from a university in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and a university Masters degree. You may also apply if you have a minimum number of 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 (one academic year) must be at Masters level. ECTS are credits recognised in the European Higher Education Area and are equivalent to 25-30 hours of work.

If you are a graduate from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) you can access the university without the need to certify your degrees, once the UCM verified that the level of studies is equivalent to a Masters degree at a university in Spain. Access via this route does not in any case imply the official certification of your degree prior to starting your Masters course.

To complete your doctoral studies you will need to present a doctoral thesis consisting of an original work of research by the student in any field of knowledge.
