The Degree in Sciences of Religions is a transversal discipline that analyzes the religious phenomenon from different scientific approaches, studying it from historical, philosophical, social and political, philological, legal and psychological perspectives, among others. These studies expanded on the world scientific and academic scene at the end of the 19th century, when they were implanted in most European and North American universities. From the first studies of "comparative mythology" at the University of Oxford, progress was made towards those of Sciences of Religions, the so-called Religious Studies in the Anglo-Saxon sphere or those of Religionswissenschaftfrom the Germanic realm. From the beginning, the Sciences of Religions were clearly distinguished from the studies of Theology, betting on maintaining their strictly scientific character and away from any confessional claim.
