The Doctoral Program in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics gathers the research and teaching experience of the General Linguistics Area of the UCM Faculty of Philology, as well as the different languages studied there (German, Italian, French and others). Romance languages, Arabic and Islamic studies, Hebrew and Aramaic studies), and proposes a two-pronged orientation: theoretical, on the one hand, in linguistic studies ( language and cognition, communication ); on the other, applied, given that this constitutes a highly interdisciplinary science ( linguistic and cultural studies and applications to teaching and technology). The program is a postgraduate continuation of the linguistic studies that are offered, on the one hand, in the Degree in Linguistics and Applied Languages, but it is also conceived as a complementary specialization for the linguistic studies of the different languages that are addressed in other Degrees of the Faculty, such as the Degree in Modern Languages and their Literatures and the Degree in Semitic and Islamic Studies.

Admission Requirements
If you are from an EU country, you will have access if you hold a bachelor's degree, or equivalent, from a Spanish university or from a university in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and a university Masters degree. You may also apply if you have a minimum number of 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 (one academic year) must be at Masters level. ECTS are credits recognised in the European Higher Education Area and are equivalent to 25-30 hours of work.
If you are a graduate from outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) you can access the university without the need to certify your degrees, once the UCM verified that the level of studies is equivalent to a Masters degree at a university in Spain. Access via this route does not in any case imply the official certification of your degree prior to starting your Masters course.
To complete your doctoral studies you will need to present a doctoral thesis consisting of an original work of research by the student in any field of knowledge.
