The Graduate Program has a historic commitment to the multidisciplinary reflection that characterizes postgraduate research in Architecture and Urbanism. The advancement of knowledge and new questions and themes require constant updating of the contents of its areas of concentration and the teaching and research practices of its faculty.

The Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at FAUUSP was created as a course based on Ordinance GR 1442, dated 01/04/1971. The first Master's class began in 1973. The Doctorate course had its first class in 1980, remaining the only Doctorate course in Architecture and Urbanism in the country until 1998.

The Program, aware of its public responsibility, is, since its inception, the largest in the country. Currently (2021) it has 95 accredited advisors, 198 Master's students, 216 Doctorate students and 20 Direct Doctorate students, in addition to approximately 200 Special Students. There are a set of 120 accredited courses , of which around 35 are offered every semester. 

In order to facilitate the mobility and national and international exchange of graduate students, disciplines are offered intensively during the vacation period.
