The Graduate Program in Gerontology has an area of concentration and three lines of research. This single area is justified from the understanding that the lines and projects that integrate it share, among themselves, three assumptions:

  1. aging is a natural and continuous process that implies a set of biopsychosocial transformations that occur over time time in all human beings;
  2. aging is unique, individual and heterogeneous, being influenced by the interaction between internal and external factors; and
  3. active and successful aging depends not only on actions in the health and social areas, but in other sectors (education, economy, work, security, among others).

Thus, this area covers aging in its different aspects and characteristics, in order to meet the needs of the elderly, in addition to preparing and educating society to face the challenges of population aging and to promote successful aging.
