The Graduate Program in Mineral Resources and Hydrogeology has an applied character, based on research inserted at the frontier of geological knowledge, and aims to train students in the areas of Mineral and Water Resources, Environmental Geology and Sustainable Development. The program is structured in two areas of concentration: Hydrogeology and Environment and Mineral Resources and Environment. In both, there is consistent application of geotechnologies (geostatistics, geophysics, georeferenced information systems and remote sensing) and multiple analytical techniques.

The Hydrogeology and Environment area aims to study the management, evaluation and use of groundwater resources, in addition to the application of hydrogeochemistry, isotopic hydrology and the development of methodologies for reducing the risks of contamination and remediation of soils and aquifers, as well as territorial planning studies, including the use of geoprocessing techniques. The area responds to a growing demand from society, which seeks sustainable use of water resources and healthier environments, and to face the problems arising from global climate change and the high demand for water from various urban, agricultural and agro-industrial activities.
