The Speech Therapy Course at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) is full-time distributed in theoretical and practical disciplines over 10 semesters. The course has 3,810 hours of mandatory disciplines, 870 hours of elective disciplines (4 optional electives that involve supervised practices and 1 research for monograph) and 240 hours of complementary academic activities. The total workload of the course is 4,680 hours.

The Course aims to meet the international guidelines that indicate that a complete Speech-Language Pathologist is an ethical, competent, reflective professional who acts with expertise and scientificity, based on evidence. Therefore, it is essential to train a general speech therapist, able to act competently and critically at the various levels of health care. The speech therapist trained in the Speech Therapy course is able to exercise his profession in an integrated Health System, meeting the needs of the population in all age groups and social, economic and cultural situations.
