The Postgraduate Program in Mineral and Petroleum Engineering (PPGEMP) aims to train masters and doctors in the field of engineering through knowledge generation (PD&I), with the vision of seeking the balance between wings and roots:
(a) Roots to continue the traditional and fruitful interaction with the mineral extraction and energy goods industry, valuing applied knowledge and technology-based development that brings concrete deliveries to Society;
(b) Wings to keep up with the transformations brought about by the 21st century, cultivating innovation and the search for new horizons. Wings to avoid being complacent with the traditional technological approach, fostering scientific research to better support technological development, expanding the nature and consistency of the Program's deliveries to Society.
Based on its wings and roots, PPGEMP has the mission of serving Brazil by training professionals who are prepared to respond to the challenges posed by the mineral extraction and energy industries. Furthermore, since the training of human resources at the postgraduate level in engineering is associated with the execution of R&D&I activities, PPGEMP's mission to serve the nation gains greater dimension and meaning with the adoption of themes that have the potential to generate innovation and contribute to national development. Since minerals and energy resources (oil and gas) constitute non-renewable natural resources, PPGEMP cultivates social responsibility as values through the rational use of these resources with a view to sustainability, respect for life and the conscious exercise of citizenship.
