The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (PMT) of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (EPUSP) responsible for the "strictu-sensu" postgraduate area of ​​Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, offers postgraduate programs in Masters and Doctorate with CAPES grade 7.

The main objectives of the program are:

  • Training of high-level human resources in the areas of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Engineering
  • Training of university professors and researchers;
  • Training of researchers for public institutions and industrial research centers;
  • Conducting scientific and technological research.

The Graduate Program in Metallurgical Engineering at the Escola Politécnica of USP, at the Master's and Doctorate levels, was implemented in 1969, and in 1972 it became the first in the field of engineering to be accredited by the Federal Council of Education. In 1990, the scope of the Program was expanded to postgraduate studies in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. In 1995, a Course Rehabilitation Plan was implemented, which involved transforming several aspects of the Program, such as the reformulation of disciplines, tutoring professors who were mostly full-time, organizing research into five Lines and defined Research Groups, hiring new professors, increase in the number of full-time scholarship students, implementation of the Post-Doctorate, implementation of new laboratories and reformulation of the existing ones.
