The Department of Music (CMU) houses the Degree and the Bachelor of Music, the latter comprising qualifications in Singing and Lyric Art, Composition, Conducting and Instrument. The qualification in Instrument, in turn, is divided into the areas of Strings (with emphasis on Viola, Violin or Cello), Plucked Strings (with emphasis on Brazilian Viola and Guitar), Wind (with emphasis on Clarinet, Clarone, Bassoon, Flute, Oboe, Trombone, Horn, Trumpet and Tuba), Keyboard (with an emphasis on Organ and Piano) and Percussion.

Courses begin with fundamental disciplines common to all areas, such as Harmony I, Counterpoint I, History of Music I and Musical Perception I, which allow students to improve theoretical knowledge and develop perceptive skills and the ability to concentrate and listen to music.

The CMU is characterized as an environment for the exchange of experiences between singers, instrumentalists, composers, conductors, music educators and researchers, and holds open musical presentations that, in addition to providing stage experience to students, promote interaction with other USP courses. and with the general public.
