This course is aimed at training Chemistry Teachers for Basic Education (high school), in addition to training professionals to work as Chemists, with the attributions of a Bachelor of Chemistry, in accordance with the resolutions of the Federal Council of Chemistry. This professional may also enroll in postgraduate courses, lato and stricto sensu, developing research in the area of ​​teaching chemistry or academic research in other specific areas of chemistry.

In the first year, the student begins the development of activities of a pedagogical nature with the objective of knowing the specific characteristics of the teaching profession, concomitant with the basic subjects of Mathematics, Physics, General Theoretical and Experimental Chemistry. Several disciplines make up the nucleus dedicated to teacher training, all structured around topics related to research in teaching, the preparation of didactic materials and experiments, and the comprehensive training of professionals in chemistry education, within the USP Teacher Training Program. The specific disciplines, in turn, have theoretical and practical contents essential to the formation of a Chemist: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. The graduate, as well as the bachelor.

The Bachelor's degree in Chemistry aims to prepare the professional for a more specific field of activity in the area of ​​Research and Development in any industrial segment and academic activity at a higher level. Contacts with Research laboratories will be implemented from the third semester of the course in the form of Specific Internships in the areas of Chemistry, lasting eight hours a week (period of 8 hours in the 3rd and 4th semesters and 16 hours in the 5th and 6th semesters). Alternatively, this internship can be carried out outside the DQ/FFCLRP, with the supervision of a Professor from this Department.

The selection is made through the Fuvest entrance exam or through the Unified Selection System (Sisu). For those who already attend higher education, it is also possible to request a transfer.
