The “Health Sciences Applied to the Locomotor Apparatus” program is offered to graduate students who are interested in researching different aspects of the locomotor system. Strictu sensu courses are offered at the Master's and Doctorate levels. Specialists from different backgrounds are welcome, such as orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, physiatrists, radiologists, physiotherapists, physicists, engineers, etc. The aim is to train high quality human resources for activity in the fields of teaching and research as well as scientific and technological development. Therefore, the courses are not intended for specialist certification represented by residency or specialty training.

The Program is taught at the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, one of the branches of the University of São Paulo, located in a city 320 km (200 miles) away from the city of São Paulo.

During master's and doctoral studies, students must take several courses offered by the institution and develop original research for publication in high-impact scientific journals. To achieve this goal, each student must interact intensively with their tutor or supervisor, usually an expert in the field of the research topic being developed by the student.
