The commitment of the Graduate Program in Ecology at the USP Institute of Biosciences (PPGE-USP) is with the quality and scope of the training offered to our students.

Our goal

Train masters and doctors in ecology with a broad understanding of all levels of ecological organization, who contribute to intellectual progress in the area of ​​biodiversity and to the resolution of relevant ecological and environmental problems, with a critical understanding of scientific activity and its role in society.

In this way, we intend to train professionals to work not only in academic jobs, but also in basic education and in non-academic sectors linked to environmental management and decision-making for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, who are capable of:

  • Formulate and answer questions on the wide range of topics that belong to the scope of ecology, to solve research and applied problems;
  • Communicate your findings clearly and objectively both to your peers within academia or technical bodies, and to society as a whole; and
  • Facing the challenges of innovation, education and bringing research closer to practice in a context of increasing complexity and globalization.

Pedagogical proposal

We seek to offer a stimulating learning environment in:

  • Formulation of questions and hypotheses of relevant interest in the area,
  • Solid theoretical and analytical training
  • Intellectual autonomy, rigor and critical sense for the analysis, interpretation and application of research findings for the resolution of academic and applied ecological issues;
  • Communication skills, whether written or spoken, for academic and non-academic audiences;
  • Approximation of research with practice, with social commitment.
