The Graduate Program in Economic History at the University of São Paulo aims at studying and researching Economic History at national, regional and international levels. Given the hybrid character of the area, as its name indicates, and being fundamentally interdisciplinary, it uses methods, theories and techniques from History and Economics that, in turn, dialogue with several other fields of knowledge. It is a question of analyzing the historical fact as an economic fact and vice versa, highlighting several themes favored by the area.

The program specifically looks for:

  • Contribute to the consolidation and dissemination of Economic History studies;
  • Train specialist masters and doctors in the area;
  • Offer disciplines, seminars and research opportunities in the area, based on the experience and production of its professors;
  • Encourage scientific initiation research in Economic History in conjunction with the university's undergraduate courses;
  • Enable graduate students to analyze the current economic and social situation, in order to encourage the formation of a technical staff capable of contributing to the formulation of policies and social actions appropriate to the national and international historical context.
  • Prospecting new themes and domains of historical research, without losing the fundamentals of quality that have marked the Program since its foundation.
  • Intervention in the Brazilian and international historiographical debate, through the performance and intellectual production of its faculty and students.
