The Graduate Program aims at training specialists in Japanese Language, Literature and Culture who can work in teaching at a higher level, as well as dedicate themselves to eminently scientific research within the context of our cultural reality. Japanese studies are carried out in the areas of knowledge of Literature, Linguistics, Arts, Anthropology, Law, History, Economics and International Relations. The subjects are taught during the day. The course is recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC).

The creation of the Post-Graduate Program in Japanese Language, Literature and Culture (Masters) of the Department of Oriental Letters of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo was a natural consequence of the consolidation of the Undergraduate Course in Language and Japanese Literature, the first in the country, implemented in 1963. Approved in 1995, the Graduate Program began its activities in 1996, aiming at training specialists in Japanese Language, Literature and Culture who can work in teaching at a higher level, as well as how to dedicate oneself to eminently scientific research inserted in the context of our cultural reality.
