The Graduate Program in Portuguese Literature  of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo aims to develop the capacity for reflection, investigation and action in the fields of teaching and research in Portuguese Literature. To this end, its efforts are aimed at exploring the set of potentialities that Portuguese culture offers, whether in relation to the different historiographical periods of its literature, from the Middle Ages to the present day, or, in a synchronic perspective, in relation to the various American cultures., African and Eastern countries where Lusophony expands and asserts itself. In this way, the Program's professors have understood the uniqueness and responsibility of being part, in Brazil, of the only stricto sensu graduate program dedicated to Portuguese Literature,

Taking it from a more specific perspective, the Program aims at training higher-level teachers and researchers, intending to contribute effectively, through integration with graduation, to the training of teachers in primary and secondary education in Language and Literature Portuguese in Brazil.
